Religious Education at Ealdham Primary School

The teaching of RE at Ealdham is planned from the Royal Greenwich Standard Advisory Council for Religious Education’s agreed syllabus (SACRE). The curriculum is designed to be relevant to all pupils, recognising and respecting their own beliefs, values and family backgrounds. Through an enquiry-based approach, children are supported to explore religious and non-religious worldviews in a thoughtful and meaningful way.

Throughout their time at Ealdham, children study Christianity and a range of other world faiths, including Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, Sikhism and Buddhism. Learning is carefully sequenced so that pupils develop secure knowledge of key beliefs, festivals, places of worship, sacred texts and ways of living. Lessons include discussion, stories, artefacts, visits, visitors and opportunities for creative and reflective response, ensuring that learning is engaging, inclusive and purposeful.

We aim to develop pupils’ understanding of how beliefs influence the way people think, feel and behave, while fostering curiosity, respect and appreciation for the diverse community we serve. By the end of Year 6, our children are able to reflect on different perspectives, communicate their ideas clearly and demonstrate thoughtful awareness of the role of religion and belief in modern society.

Right to Withdraw from Religious Education

Parents and carers have the right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education. If you are considering this, we ask that you speak with the Headteacher or RE Lead Ms Kristy Saville, to discuss the aims and content of the curriculum and to explore how we can support your child’s learning. We aim to work in partnership with families to ensure decisions are fully informed and in the best interests of each child.

Once you have made the decision to withdraw your child from part or all of the curriculum, we ask that you let us know in writing, via the school office, or by email to sao@ealdham.greenwich.sch.uk
